The First Edition of this work was published in 1868, and it has since been frequently reprinted, with additions. It was stated in the First Edition that important names might have been omitted from the List of Huguenot Refugees and their Descendants at the close of the volume but the Author invited further contributions on the subject, which would be inserted in any future edition.
Numerous memoirs have accordingly been sent to the Author from England, Ireland, Scotland, and even India, in reply to his invitation. Many of these had never before been published, though they are of much interest. They are now included in the List of Distinguished Huguenots and their Descendants, and in the Appendix to the same list, at the end of this volume. The memoirs in the Appendix are the most recent additions.

Although my grandparents emigrated from Ireland, they do not have an Irish surname. I have long wondered if perhaps they themselves are Huguenot descendants. This book is a wealth of information, not only for those of us who are descended from western European Protestants, but for those who are interested in the history of the mid Atlantic states. It also details well the considerable loss of skilled tradesmen France suffered because of its paranoid persecution of its Protestant population. There is still one Huguenot congregation with a gorgeous church in Charleston, SC.Product details

Unreadable. I am angry. A 19th century book (not the published date in the ) The pages scanned directly are so pale as to be indecipherable and those brought to text are jumbled beyond comprehension. Very disappointing !!
This is a very clean and decent photo reprint of a wonderful historical resource. The text is crystal-clear and the binding is well-msde.
